If items other than the cylinder seals are worn or damaged, the cylinder must
be replaced as a complete assembly. Disassemble, inspect, and assemble the
cylinder for inspection and seal replacement only.
Refer to
Figure 63
for this procedure.
1. Remove hydraulic fluid from the cylinder into a drain pan by slowly pumping
the cylinder shaft. Plug both ports and clean the outside of the cylinder.
2. Secure the cylinder in a vise by lightly clamping on the mounting collar on
the barrel.
3. Remove the retaining ring from the head and barrel:
A. Using a spanner wrench, rotate the head clockwise until the edge of the
retaining ring appears in the barrel opening.
B. Insert a screwdriver under the beveled edge of the retaining ring to start
the retaining ring out the barrel opening.
C. Rotate the head counterclockwise to fully remove retaining ring.
4. Remove the plugs from the ports. Extract the shaft, head and piston by
carefully twisting and pulling on the shaft.
