General Run Problems

Problem
The engine shuts off when the traction
pedal is depressed.
The battery does not charge.
Troubleshooting: General Run Problems
Possible Cause
The Operator is not in the seat or the
seat switch is faulty.
The seat switch is faulty.
Diode D1 is faulty.
The battery is damaged.
A loose, corroded, or broken wire exists
in the charging circuit.
The alternator or voltage regulator is
damaged.
The wire harness fusible link at the
voltage regulator is damaged.

Corrective Action
Sit in the seat before depressing the
traction pedal.
Test the seat switch and replace if
necessary.
Test the diode and replace if necessary.
Charge and test the battery or replace
if necessary.
Test the circuit wiring and repair or
replace if necessary.
Test the alternator and voltage regulator
output; refer to the Briggs & Stratton
V-Twin Engine Service Manual.
Test the wire harness fusible link and
repair or replace if necessary.
