TROUBLESHOOTING

SYMPTOM
Cylinder moves slow
Piston will not move
Cylinder leaks oil
Piston ram will not
build pressure
Pump cavitation
Foam forms in the
hydraulic fluid
Pumps deliver little
or no oil
Pump will not turn
Unstable valves
CAUSE
Air in pump
Air in circuit
Damaged cylinder gaskets
Damaged or worn pump
Sequence valve jammed
Delivery oil line is choked or
clogged
Electric motor will not turn
Piston gaskets are completely
damaged
Blocked distributor
Damaged pump
Head gaskets are damaged or
worn
Lack of pressure from pump
Pressure control valve is set low
Filter suction is clogged
Oil is too viscous
Oil level is too low
Oil is unsuitable for the press
Fittings or joints letting air in
Air is being discharged into circuit
Pump is worn or damaged
Pump joint is undone or damaged
Valve seat damage
Pressure not constant

SOLUTION
Bleed the air
Bleed the air
Replace cylinder gaskets
Replace pump
Recondition sequence valve
Check hydraulic lines
Check motor
Replace piston gasket
Recondition distributor
Recondition or replace pump
Replace head gaskets
Recondition pump
Reset valve appropriately
Clean or replace
Empty and refill with more suitable
oil
Fill oil back up to correct level
Replace with suitable oil
Tighten or replace fittings
Discharge air from system
Recondition or replace
Check and/or replace
Recondition or replace
Check pump or pressure relief
valve
