Connecting to the Network
This chapter describes how to connect different types of
network cables to EtherLink III adapters.
This chapter contains the following sections:

Types of Connectors

Connecting to the On-board Transceiver
Connecting to the External Transceiver
Refer to the section "Changing Software Option Settings"
in Chapter 2 for information on changing the Transceiver
Type software option.
Types of Connectors
The following types of network cable connectors are
found on EtherLink III adapters:
Cable Type
Thin coaxial
Twisted-pair
Thick coaxial
* Default setting for the 3C509, 3C509-COMBO, or 3C579 adapter.
† Default setting for the 3C509-TP or 3C579-TP adapter.
Figure 5-1 shows the backplates of the adapters.
