PING TEST

You can use a ping utility to determine the round-trip delay between devices on the network.

MIVOICE BUSINESS SYSTEM ADMINISTRATION TOOL PING UTILITY

The IP Telephones form in the MiVoice Business System Administration tool provides a ping
utility that you can use to determine whether a programmed, in-service IP telephone is
accessible. This ping utility is not supported for SIP devices.

WINDOWS AND LINUX PING UTILITIES

To perform a ping test from a PC:
1. Obtain the IP address of the IP phone that is experiencing voice quality issues. You can
access the Configuration (Debug) Menu on the phone to view its settings and network
parameters, including its IP address (refer to the MiVoice Business Troubleshooting Guide
for instructions).
Note: A MiVoice IP Phone can be configured with a static IP address or it can obtain its
IP address from a DHCP server. If the IP phone gets its address from a DHCP server,
the IP address can change whenever the IP phone reboots.
Note: The Configuration (Debug) Menu on MiVoice IP Phones provides a ping test.
However, it only tests connectivity and does not indicate the delay time.
2. Go to a PC that is on the same subnet as the IP phone that is experiencing voice quality
issues.
3. From the Windows Start menu, click Run, and type "cmd" and then click OK to open a
command window.
4. At the prompt, type "ping" followed by the IP address of the MiVoice IP Phone and press
Enter. Figure 11 shows an example:
