4-2-3 Capstan Override Playback

To return to normal-speed playback
Press the PLAY button.
To alternate between normal-speed playback and variable-
mode playback
After setting the search dial to the required playback speed, press the
PLAY button and VAR button alternately to switch between normal-speed
playback and variable-mode playback.
To stop and start variable-mode playback, press the STOP button and
VAR button respectively.
When playing back the same program on two VTRs, the playback phases
of the two VTRs can be adjusted so that they are synchronized with each
other. However, since there are no reference signal connectors on the
VTRs, complete synchronization between the two VTRs cannot be
obtained.
Note
Set the system so that jog/shuttle mode playback does not start unless you
press the JOG, SHUTTLE or VAR button first.
Doing this prevents the VTR from accidentally entering search mode
during capstan override playback.

Setting for Operations" on page 3-2.
