5.2 Regular maintenance and cleaning

It is crucial to perform inspection and cleaning on a regular basis to maintain the
splice quality of the Swift KR12A.
5.2.1 Cleaning the objective lenses
The contamination of the objective lenses surface may cause inaccurate observation
of the fiber position, resulting in higher splice loss and poor performance of the
Swift KR12A. Therefore, the two objective lenses have to be cleaned on a regular
basis. Otherwise, the dust sticks on the surface and it may become irremovable
eventually. Clean them as instructed below.
i. Turn off the power of the Swift KR12A prior to cleaning the lenses.
ii. Remove electrodes.
iii. The lens in a circular motion from the center with an alcohol-soaked soft
cotton swab as below picture. Remove remaining alcohol on the surface of
the lenses with dry and clean cotton swab.
iv. Check to ensure there is no line, scratch or stain.
v. Re-assemble electrodes correctly.
vi.
Turn on the power and perform a diagnostic test.
