CCD Array

The SOPHIA-XO camera system, equipped with a ConFlat flange mount, incorporates a
back-illuminated, scientific-grade CCD to ensure the highest image fidelity, resolution,
and acquisition flexibility required for scientific imaging. Large full wells, square pixels,
and 100% fill factors provide high dynamic range and excellent spatial resolution. Your
choice of CCD is already installed in the camera that you received and has been
individually tested.
For complete specifications and information about the CCD used in SOPHIA-XO
cameras, refer to
2.1.3

Cooling

Dark current is reduced in SOPHIA-XO camera systems by cooling the CCD array using
Teledyne Princeton Instruments' exclusive ArcTec™ technology using air and/or
circulating coolant. To prevent condensation and contamination from occurring,
cameras cooled this way are evacuated. Refer to
Temperature, on page 108 for specific cooling specifications.
2.1.3.1

Internal Fan

The SOPHIA-XO camera is equipped with an internal cooling fan that:
Teledyne Princeton Instruments ArcTec cooling technology cools SOPHIA-XO's CCD
assisted by air drawn into the camera by an internal fan mounted on the rear of the
camera. The circulating air then vents out through slots on the side panels. By default,
the fan is always in operation and air-cooling of both the CCD and the internal
electronics occurs continuously. In most cases, the low-vibration fan action does not
adversely affect image acquisition.
In those applications where the fan's vibration could reduce image quality the internal
fan can be disabled on the Sensor Expander within LightField.
For the fan to function properly, uninhibited air circulation must be maintained
between the sides of the camera and the laboratory atmosphere.

SOPHIA-XO Power Supply Connectors and Indicators (Sheet 2 of 2)
This switch is used to turn the power supply ON (1) and OFF (0).
This connector is used to connect the power supply to an AC wall receptacle
using the provided power cable.
Table A-2, CCD Array
Removes heat and assists in the cooling of the CCD array, and
Cools the electronics.
When SOPHIA-XO is air cooled (i.e., no external coolant circulator is in use,) the
internal fan can be disabled for a brief period (i.e., a few seconds.) Sensors
within SOPHIA-XO monitor its temperature and will reactivate the fan before
temperatures within the camera rise too much.
When SOPHIA-XO is cooled using an external coolant circulator, the internal
fan can be safely disabled for a longer period. As with air cooled applications,
internal sensors monitor the temperature and will reactivate the fan if
necessary.
