media. The SFPs are hot-swappable and use industry-standard local
channel connectors.
In Fibre Channel mode, each port provides ISL, loop, and fabric (E, F,
and FL, respectively) type connectivity that is automatically sensed
and requires no administration to identify the port type.
Additionally, the ports can be configured to provide EX_Port
connectivity for use when routing traffic between SANs. To use the
ports as EX_Ports, you must manually configure them. Refer to the
XPath OS Administrator's Guide for details about port configuration.
Optionally, multiprotocol ports can be configured to act as
IEEE-compliant optical Gigabit Ethernet ports, running at 1 Gbit/sec
speed. When configured this way, the optional GigE ports are used as
part of the Brocade FCIP and iSCSI implementation. Refer to
Table 4-2 on page 4-4 for information about the Fibre Channel port
LEDs.
Management Ports The AP-7420B provides dual, fully IEEE-compliant 10/100 Base-T
Ethernet ports for management purposes. When a device is
connected to the port, both ends negotiate to determine the optimal
speed. The Ethernet port uses a RJ-45 connector. There are three
externally visible LEDs for each Ethernet port (refer to Table 4-3 on
page 4-5 for additional LED information). One LED indicates link,
one indicates transmit/receive activity, and one indicates speed (10
Mb/s or 100 Mb/s). The TCP/IP address for each port can be
configured from the serial port.
Serial Port An RS-232 serial port is provided on the AP-7420B. The serial port
uses an RJ-45 connector. The serial port's parameters are fixed at 9600
baud, 8 data bits, no parity, and flow control is set to None. This
connector is for initial IP address configuration and for recovery of
the switch to its factory default settings should flash memory
contents be lost. The serial port connection is not intended for normal
administration/maintenance functions.
