5) Use 636K8 Plastaband to seal the milled area of the bearing nut, the
screw heads and the spring channel of the upper joint section.
Shaping the bars
The 17B97* kit contains four lamination bars with a straight design and a
length of 80 mm. The lamination bars are optionally available with a length of
100 mm and a contoured calf. The lamination bars are profiled at the ends
for better anchoring in the laminate (see fig. 3). The sharpened part with the
bore hole (4.2 mm) supports the attachment to the 17Y106 PVC profile
material.
1) Secure the bars on the orthotic knee joint using the screws and check
the alignment on the model (see fig. 5).
2) Mark the insertion zone on the bar.
3) Loosen the screws of the bars and adapt the bars with bending irons.
4) Fasten the shaped bars to the orthotic knee joint using the screws.
5) Repeat the steps until the desired result is obtained.
6) INFORMATION: When fabricating the orthosis, use 636W18 special
adhesive and 636W19 hardener (not included in the scope of deliv
ery) to bond and screw together the lamination bars in the inser
tion zone of the orthotic knee joint.
Processing the PVC profile material
Use the PVC profile material as core material for the reinforcement and the
reinforcement clamps. It serves as the connecting element between the
orthotic knee joint and orthotic ankle joint.
1) Mark the position of the PVC profile material on the plaster model and
cut it to length.
2) Heat the PVC profile material with a hot air gun (approx. 80 °C) and
mould it into shape.
3) INFORMATION: The material can also be shaped slightly while
cold (see fig. 6).
4) Use the included hollow rivets to connect the shaped PVC profile materi
al to the lamination bars (see fig. 7). Optional: Use 636K11 quick-drying
adhesive.
Using the perlon cord
The perlon cord (3 mm) is integrated in the reinforcement of the orthosis and
removed after the laminate has hardened. The perlon cable (2 mm) is routed
in the fabricated cable channel for the lock lever.
1) Determine the length of the perlon cord.
2) Heat the perlon cord with the hot air gun (180 °C) and mould it to the
model (see fig. 8).
