Operation sequence of the thread holders

11. Operation sequence of the thread holders
Home position:
The closed thread cutting head is positioned in front of the workpiece.
Thread cutting:
The feed unit moves the rotating cutting head according to the flank lead along the
workpiece. The thread is cut.
When the thread is cut, the connecting rod moves to "cutting head open", and the
chaser holders are released and the chasers lift from the workpiece.
At the same time the infeed stop is carried out.
The feed unit is retracted in fast motion into the home position whilst the cutting head
is open.
Closing of the thread cutting head:
The cutting head has reached its home position and is positioned again in front of
the workpiece.
The connecting rod moves in position "cutting head closed" and thus closes the cut-
ting head. The next cutting process can begin.
Annotation:
The position "cutting head" closed may vary between the positions "cutting head
closed" (min.) and "cutting head closed" (max.) This enables a fine adjustment of the
thread diameter via the adjusted position of the connecting rod.
Replacement of the thread holders:
The position "holder replacement" has to be reached in order to install or remove the
chaser holders. During that position the chaser holders can be swivelled out from the
holder guidance and taken out. The new holders are plugged in the bore holes of
the base body and are swivelled in the holder guidance. By means of the tension ring
which is laid over the sliding pieces, the holders are pressed together.
The cutting head is closed.
Caution:
The chaser holders can be expelled from the cutting head whilst the shaft ro-
tates! Therefore it has to be guaranteed that the position "replacement of the
holders" can only be reached when the shaft is stagnant and during manual
operation!
The chaser holders should only be pressed together with the clamping ring. Machi-
nery hazards include crushing of fingers and hands whilst the cutting head is
closing!
