16. Maintenance

It is necessary to maintain this precision tool for ensuring its operation and perfor-
mance. The maintenance intermittent is dependent on the operating conditions. The
mode of operation and the condition of the cooling lubricant are hereby most impor-
tant. To maintain it properly the cutting head has to be decomposed in its component
parts. Shouldn't the cutting head be in use for a longer period of time, it is essential
to clean it thoroughly and to treat it with a corrosion protection.

16.1. Disassembling

In order to disassemble the cutting head, the holders are removed from the head (see
chapter 11, „replacement of the chaser holders") and the cutting head is dismantled
from the machine.
Shoe [230] and clamping piece [250] of the holder are serviced concerning abrasion
and replaced if needed.
Should the cutting head after having been maintenanced set to the same measure-
ment, it is helpful to mark the setting value on the excentric ring.
Unscrew the two cylinder head screws [140] from the insert plates [120]: the excentric
ring [110] can now be removed from the guide ring [70].
Unscrew the two cylinder head screws [170]: the gear segment [150] and the clam-
ping piece [160] can now be removed.
The four cylinder head screws [130] can be unscrewed by the four holder boreholes
of the base body [10].
The flank [400] and the guide ring [70] with the attached parts can now be separated
(dressed backwards) from the base body [10].
Please take note that the two o-rings [420] of the flank [400] don't get lost.
Only then is it necessary to dismantle parts assembled on the guide ring [70], if some
of them are worn and have to be replaced.
Press the pressure socket [20] on the base body and unscrew the headless screws
[40]: the pressure sockets [20] and the pressure springs [30] can be removed.
Clean all parts, blow lubricating- and coolant hole on the base body [10], connection
[210] and flank [400] with compressed air.

16.2. Mounting

Apply oil on all parts.
Mount pressure springs [30] and pressure sockets [20] in the base body [10].
Press the pressure sockets and screw in the headless screws [40].
Move the guide ring [70] with attachment parts from behind on the base body.
(Please take into consideration the position of the spring guide [80] towards
the spring guide groove in the base body [10]!).
