Setting of the chasers in the chaser holder
In order to cut proper threads it is essential to set the chasers evenly in the approp-
riate chaser holders according to the holder table and in the right proportion to the
workpiece. This kind of setting can be compared with the setting of turning steel at
centre height. Please refer to the thread- and holder tables for more information.

7.1. Determination of the setting value

The setting value results from the setting length which is the length from the centre of
rotation of the holder to the tangential point of the minor thread diameter.
Thus the setting length is dependent on the minor thread diameter of the thread.
To simplify the setting of the chasers, the setting lengths are converted into setting
values which are laid down in the holder- and thread tables.
Using the setting device, the setting values are transmitted onto the chasers.
In order to establish the setting value, please refer to the left column of the holder-
and setting table for the thread to be cut.
To the very right you will come upon the column »setting values« .In this column under
gauge the setting value is indicated.
Referring to these values laid down in the table means that the cutting edge of the
chaser cuts the central part of the workpiece.
In practice, however, it has become evident that this value should be adjusted to the
various materials. The following details are guidelines since other factors such as
centre accuracy of the cutting head/material, carriage and shaft clearance etc. play
an important role, too.
