4. Verify that the HMC that contains the dump is the HMC being used to report the dump.
5. Click Selected > Call Home Dump. The dump summary display shows the date, time and size of the
dump. Report the summary information to your next level of support or your hardware service
provider.
6. Has your next level of support or your hardware service provider requested a copy of the dump?
v Yes: Continue to the next step.
v No: Contact your next level of support or your hardware service provider on the problem.
7. To copy a dump to removable media, perform the following steps:
a. Click Copy Dump File to DVD Media.
b. Load the media and follow the instructions on the display.
c. When the copy procedure is successfully completed, remove the media and process it according to
the instructions of your next level of support or your hardware service provider. If you encounter
a problem with the copy procedure, contact your next level of support or your hardware service
provider.
8. To copy a dump to another system, perform the following steps:
a. Click Selected > Copy Dump File to Other System.
b. Follow the instructions on the display.
c. When the copy procedure is complete, contact your next level of support or your hardware service
provider.
To report a dump by using the SDMC, complete the following steps:
1. From the main IBM Systems Director welcome page, select View support files under the Service and
Support Manager link.
Alternatively, click Manage support files from the main Service and Support Manager summary page.
2. From the Manage Support Files window, select the dump file, and then click Submit to IBM.

Reporting a dump by using an AIX command:

You can report a dump by using an AIX command.
Report the dump only if you are directed to do so by your next level of support or service provider.
Platform dumps are saved in AIX in the following directory:
/var/adm/platform
Note: If the AIX logical partition becomes the service partition after it was installed, run the following
command to create this directory:
platform_dump -f jfs2
or
platform_dump -f jfs
This command creates the /var/adm/ras/platform file system. This is done automatically during the
installation if the AIX logical partition was marked as the service partition before it was installed.

You can report a dump by using a Linux command.
Platform dumps are saved in AIX in the following directory: /var/log/dump/
Report the dump only if you are directed to do so by your next level of support or service provider.
