Chapter 1
Install the Cisco ONS 15310-MA SDH
The Cisco ONS 15310-MA SDH is intended for use with telecommunications equipment only.
Note
The intra-building ports of the ONS15310-MA SDH are suitable only for connecting to intrabuilding or

unexposed wiring or cabling. The intra-building ports of ONS15310-MA SDH MUST NOT be
metallically connected to interfaces that connect to the OSP or its wiring. These interfaces are
designed for use as intra-building interfaces only (Type 2 or Type 4 ports as described in
GR-1089-CORE, Issue 4) and require isolation from the exposed OSP cabling. The addition of Primary
Protectors is not sufficient protection in order to connect these interfaces metallically to OSP wiring.
Required Tools and Equipment
You will need the following tools and equipment to install and test the ONS 15310-MA SDH.

Rack mount bracket for 19-inch rack
Cable routing bracket
Equipment rack (26 inches total width for a 19-inch rack)
Fuse and alarm panel
Copper power cable (from fuse and alarm panel to assembly), #12 AWG
Ground cable, #6 AWG stranded (minimum)
Alarm In cable, unshielded cable terminated with a DB-37 connector
Alarm Out cable, shielded cable terminated with a DB-25 connector
