1.4.1 General Safety Instructions
INFORMATION
Seat cushions may only be selected and adapted by appropriately trained and qualified personnel.
CAUTION
Risk of tipping. Inserting a cushion into a wheelchair may change the wheelchair's centre of
gravity, which can cause the wheelchair in some cases to tip over backwards and may result in
injuries. It is therefore important to check whether anti-tippers or adjustable axle supports, such
as those used for lower limb amputees, should be mounted to the wheelchair to improve stability.
CAUTION
Risk of pressure sores. All Ottobock cushions have been designed to reduce pressure sores.
A cushion alone, however, cannot completely eliminate sitting pressure or possible pressure
sores. Ottobock cushions are not intended to replace thorough skin care, good nutrition, hygiene
and regular pressure relief.
CAUTION
Risk of redness of the skin. Before using a cushion on a permanent basis, we highly recom-
mend that the user test it for a few hours under medical supervision, during which time it should
be determined that no reddening of the skin occurs. Examine the skin for redness on a regular
basis. Redness of the skin is a clinical indicator for tissue damage. Should redness of the skin
occur, immediately stop using the cushion and consult a physician or therapist.
NOTICE
Risk of damaging the surface of the cushion. Do not allow sharp objects to come into contact
with the cushion and do not expose the cushion to open flames.
NOTICE
Risk of damage due to impermissible temperature. Do not expose the cushion to tempera-
tures of more than 55 °C / 131 °F for a longer period of time.
If the cushion was exposed to temperatures of less than 0 °C / 32 °F for a longer period of time,
touch the cells to test how they feel. If they feel hard, knead the cells with your hands until they
are fluffy again. Place the cushion on the wheelchair.
1.5  Function
The Cloud cushion is tailored to the special needs of active users and offers a maximum of protection.
The use of Floam polymer gel represents a new way of decubitus prophylaxis. The Floam filling
in the cushion provides for effective pressure distribution to lower-risk areas. The side cells of
Floam provide additional support.
