Grounding Stud - Inspect/Clean/Tighten

1. Release the latches (3) that secure cap (4) to
housing (7).
2. Lift the cap (4) to expose the filter element (6).
There may be oil in the bottom of the housing.
Avoid spilling the oil.
3. If necessary, loosen hose clamp (2). Remove hose
(1) from the cap (4).

4. Remove the filter element (6) by pulling up, ensure
the O-ring seal (5) is also removed. Dispose of the
used filter element and O-ring in accordance with
local regulations.
5. Ensure that an O-ring (5) is in place on the new
filter element (6.). Align the filter element centrally
with the housing assembly (7).
6. Install the filter element into the housing by gently
pushing the filter element all the way down.
7. Clamp the latches (3) to secure the cap (4).
8. If necessary, install hose clamp (2) to the hose (1).
Install hose (1) to the cap (4). Tighten hose clamp
(2) to a torque of 6 N·m (53 lb in).

The grounding stud is located on the upper left corner
of the engine control module.
Inspect the OEM harness for good connections.
Inspect the condition of the OEM harness.
The grounding stud must have a wire ground to the
battery. Tighten the grounding stud at every oil
change. Ground wires and straps should be
combined at engine grounds. All grounds should be
tight and free of corrosion.
• Clean the grounding stud and the terminals for the
ground strap with a clean cloth.
• If the connections are corroded, clean the
connections with a solution of baking soda and
water.
• Keep the grounding stud and the strap clean and
coated with MPGM grease or petroleum jelly.
