Warning!
You need to fill the ceramic pan (4) with at least 1 litre of ingredients, including liquid.
Always use at least 1 cup of liquid. Otherwise, the device can overheat and cause a fire
or damage to equipment.
Fill the ceramic pan (4) with no more than 3.3 litres of ingredients, including liquid. Otherwise,
the contents can boil over and cause burns or damage to equipment.
You can achieve best results by adding between 1.5 to 2 litres of ingredients, including
liquid, into the ceramic pan (4). This means the ceramic pan (4) is around half full.
Beans and hard vegetables like potatoes or carrots should always be covered with liquid
for cooking.
3.
Place the glass lid (2) back on to the ceramic pan (4).

8.3 Slow cooking

Slow cooking cooks ingredients gently and healthily below boiling point. This allows the dish to release its
full flavour without sticking or the liquid boiling away. But slow cooking requires very long cooking times,
sometimes several hours.
But the long cooking time makes even tough, firm meat tender. Legumes such as peas, lentils and beans
and hard vegetables like carrots, potatoes and turnips are also excellent when prepared in the slow
cooker.
Dishes like soups and stews are not only given an excellent consistency, they also taste wonderful.
Below are a few tips and tricks you should bear in mind when cooking with the slow cooker:
Danger!
Beans are toxic when raw. You need to cook beans for sufficient time on HIGH
before they are edible.
Red beans contain a toxic protein which is only broken down at very high temperatures.
Using the slow cooker is not sufficient. Red beans must be pre-cooked for 10
minutes in boiling water before putting them in the slow cooker.
Poultry must be fully cooked before eating to avoid the risk of salmonella poisoning.
General recommendations:
You can achieve best results by adding between 1.5 to 2 litres of ingredients, including liquid, into
the ceramic pan (4). This means the ceramic pan (4) is around half full.
Defrost frozen ingredients before preparing them in the slow cooker. Otherwise, they may not cook
through properly because of the low cooking temperature.
If there is a lot of liquid in the ceramic pan (4) at the end of the cooking process, remove the glass lid
(2) and switch the control dial (7) to the HIGH position. This allows the liquid to evaporate better.
