The switches located below the main power switch are used for sensor calibration and
maintenance (Figure 151). These controls are restricted to qualified maintenance
personnel.

Scanner Crash Switch

Scanners are equipped with four crash switches, one of which is located at each end on
the upper and lower cross beam of the scanner frame as shown in Figure 152. This switch
prevents the scanning heads from ramming the end of the scanner frame in the rare event
that a scan control failure should occur.
The position of the crash switch is located at the factory to provide a minimum safe
distance between the head movement and the inside of the scanner frame (min value =
356mm [14 in]). This is a safety requirement and the crash switch must not be
repositioned any closer to the scanner end supports. Refer to your scanner maintenance
manual for more information.
In case of failure, the scanning head may strike the crash switch. The spring absorbs the
shock to prevent damage to the heads. On impact, the crash switch shuts off power to the
scanner drive motor.
