Central Keratometry

If you are operating the Acuitus 5010/5015 in the automatic mode, it will take central keratometry
measurements automatically and display the results as soon as the eye is aligned. When you follow
refraction with central keratometry, the instrument will refract the eye and proceed automatically to
keratometry. If you are using the manual mode, press the button on the joystick as soon as the eye is
aligned.

Peripheral Keratometry

Because the patient must be asked to look at a series of four fixation targets, peripheral keratometry cannot
be performed in the automatic mode. If you are using the automatic mode, the Acuitus 5010/5015 switches
to the manual mode when it is time to take the peripheral measurements.
The screen prompt will tell you when to ask the patient to look at the first fixation target. Tell the patient to
continue facing straight ahead and look at the first light. When the patient is looking at the target, push the
button on the top of the joystick. The prompt will then tell you to ask the patient to look at the second
target, and so on until all four measurements are complete.

Keratometry Printout Options

If both refraction and keratometry have been performed, the keratometry results appear on the printout after
the refraction results with, again, the results for the right eye first (see the sample printout on page 12). If
keratometry has been performed alone, the printout will show keratometry only.
