Troubleshooting PROFIBUS DP-V1 Communication

Communication Problems
Problem
PROFIBUS Master Unit is
configured. Both the I/O
Communication as the
PROFIBUS DP-V1 Com-
munication fail.
PROFIBUS Master Unit is
configured and the I/O
Communication is operati-
ional.
The PROFIBUS DP-V1
Communication fails.
Probable cause
The specified slave devices may be in Sync
mode.
The specified slave device may have its
watchdog disabled and is disconnected from
the network, due to a cabling problem.
• BF LED indicator is Flashing.
• CIO Words n+9 to n+16 (see Note) show
which slaves have problems.
• Use CX-Profibus and DTMs to determine
slave diagnostics.
The specified slave devices may be in
Freeze mode.

This section deals with troubleshooting the PROFIBUS DP-V1 Communica-
tion on the network from a behaviour point of view. The column on the left
describes the general perceived problem to the user. The columns on the
right list the possible causes and their remedies.
Probable cause
A possible problem with the network.
The I/O Configuration is incorrect and the
slave device is not in data exchange with the
PROFIBUS Master Unit.
FINS commands can not be send to a
PROFIBUS Slave which has address value
zero.
When communicating with the DTM or from
the PLC program, the previous PROFIBUS
DP-V1 communication session may not have
been ended correctly.
Corresponding PROFIBUS DP-V1 Connec-
tion bit (refer to Acyclic Connection/Abort
Status Box on page 74) is still set.
The PROFIBUS Slave may not support
PROFIBUS DP-V1 (class 1 or class 2).
Correction
Send a Global-Control Unsync command to
the targeted slave or group of slaves. Use
either the Global-Control feature in CIO
Words. Refer to 4-2-2 Global-Control Mes-
sage (Word n+2).
Verify that the specified slave device is still
connected to the network.
Send a Global-Control Unfreeze command to
the targeted slave or group of slaves. Use
either the Global-Control feature in CIO
Words. Refer to 4-2-2 Global-Control Mes-
sage (Word n+2).
Verify that the specified slave device is still
connected to the network.
Correction
Please refer to sections 7-4-2 Troubleshoot-
ing the Network using CX-Profibus and/or 7-
4-3 Troubleshooting I/O Communication.
Correct the I/O Configuration if required.
Change the address of the PROFIBUS Slave
and the PROFIBUS configuration if required.
Put the DTM offline and online again to ini-
tiate communication.
If this does not clear the problem, put the
master in OFFLINE mode and back into the
original state.
Please check the Slave's Operation manual
or GSD file.
