TONE SQUELCH AND POCKET BEEP
Tone/DTCS squelch
D Operation
1. Set the operating frequency, or select a memory
channel or Call channel.
2. Push [FUNC], and then push [SET] to enter the
Set mode.
3. Set the tone frequency, or DTCS code and DTCS
polarity.
4. Push [# ENT] to exit the Set mode.
5. Push [FUNC], and then push [TONE] several
times, until the icon of desired Tone function is
displayed.

6. Operate the transceiver in a normal way; push
[PTT] to transmit, release [PTT] to receive.
7. When a signal with matching tones or codes is
received, the squelch opens and audio is heard.
L To manually open the squelch, push [MONI].
L If the signal includes an unmatching tones,
the squelch does not open. However, the icon
shows the strength of the received signal.
8. To cancel the tone or DTCS squelch, push
[FUNC], and then push [TONE] several times,
until the tone icon disappears.

Squelch burst:

While using the tone squelch, noise may be heard
just when the received signal disappears.
To eliminate the noise, the transceiver has the
Squelch Burst function. See page 9-7 for details.

I bought this thinking it was a simple ship to shore to call bridges on the ICVW. How do I call on for example, Channel 9?

To call on Channel 9 using the Icom IC-V86, follow these steps:

1. Turn on the transceiver.
2. Push [VFO/MR/CALL] several times to select the memory mode.
3. Use [Y] or [Z] to navigate to Channel 9.
4. Press and hold the Push-To-Talk (PTT) button to transmit.
5. Release the PTT button to listen.

This will allow you to call on Channel 9.
