Source NDP Operation and Document Processing

Processing Documents

Processing documents involves the following tasks:

Setting up the Source NDP unit

Preparing documents for processing
Feeding documents
Removing documents from pockets
It is normally the job of your site supervisor or administrator to start up
application programs on the host PC for processing documents. However, at
some sites, you may be required to perform these tasks. If so, you will be
instructed about what to do.
Cleaning the Source NDP is important for satisfactory operation.
Before processing documents, be sure that the unit has been cleaned
following the weekly or as-needed cleaning procedures in Section 4. After
cleaning, process several test documents to ensure that the unit is clean and
ready for use.
As you work, you may have to remove jammed documents or recover from
other problem conditions. Section 6 describes reprocessing documents and
recovering from problems. Refer to documentation provided with the
application program to recover from application problems.
Setting Up the Source NDP Unit
An application must be started before you begin processing documents. If it
is your job to start the application, refer to the documentation supplied with
the application.
Follow these steps to set up the Source NDP unit for processing:
1. Adjust the check limiters to accommodate the length of the longest
documents in pockets.
Use short check limiters available from Unisys Direct when the
longest documents are shorter than the pocket (or under 6 inches).
This helps to ensure proper document stacking and reduces pocket
jams. Install the foam limiter by squeezing the limiter and pressing it
into the pocket. Position the limiter so that documents clear the last
roller at the pocket entrance. Refer to Figure 3-5.
