VidyoPanorama using the Admin pages. This guide is intended for you if you are a trained installer of Vidyo™ equipment or you are an IT administrator who needs to manage the VidyoPanorama system.
Before you begin installing VidyoPanorama, you should prepare for the installation as described in this chapter. If your VidyoPanorama equipment is already installed and you simply need to configure the system, skip the chapters that describe the installation process and continue with Chapter 3, “Configuring VidyoPanorama.”...
Chapter 1: Preparing for the Installation VidyoPanorama displays and that the equipment rack should be within 15 ft. (4.57 m) of the displays (if you want to avoid using cable extenders). Display Size So now that you have an idea of the room size you need, what size should you select for your displays? Vidyo recommends that you select at least a 50”...
Display Layout VidyoPanorama gives you the flexibility to place your displays in any layout that you choose and on more than one wall. You can even choose displays of different sizes and mount them landscape, portrait, or a combination of both.
Page 9
Example 3 —Four-screen VidyoPanorama: For this VidyoPanorama room, we have to lay out four displays. Three are the same size, but one is larger. We could lay them out in a number of ways. For example: ...
If you have any displays of different sizes, mark the size of the display on the icon. Copy this page and give it to the person who is responsible for installing the displays in the Vidyo- Panorama room.
Page 11
Chapter 1: Preparing for the Installation Here’s an example of how the Display Layout Worksheet would look if we wanted to lay out our displays as shown in Example 3 on page 9: 65” 52” 52” 52”...
2. If your displays are laid out in more than one row like in Examples 2 and 3 on page 9, Vidyo recommends placing the camera above the bottom row of displays at the vertical centerline. In Example 2, you would place the camera above display 8.
Page 13
When deciding where to place the table in the room, consider the location of the camera and displays. Remember that if you purchased the camera from Vidyo, it has a 70° horizontal view angle and requires a minimum distance of 10 ft. (3.05 m) to capture a 13.83 ft. (4.22 m) table and its participants. You must also ensure that you leave enough space behind the participants for them to move their chairs out from the table as well as walk behind the table.
If a separate server room is not available and you must place the equipment rack in the VidyoPanorama room, you should purchase an equipment rack that has an office-quality appearance (such as the Kell Systems equipment rack recommended by Vidyo).
ROOM DESIGN RECOMMENDATIONS When designing the room in which you are going to install VidyoPanorama, you should take a number of factors into consideration such as the placement of the windows, the noise level in the room, the lighting, and so on.
Lighting Your VidyoPanorama room should have evenly dispersed, ambient lighting. For the best lighting, use LED lights. Although the upfront cost for these is higher, the long-term cost is lower. The direct fluorescent lighting that is common in offices is not recommended because it causes harsh shadows on the faces of the participants and because its brightness can vary considerably at different parts of the room.
“The usual and customary tools in their usual and customary format.” That’s what creates the most effective collaboration. Vidyo offers an optional VGA2USB LR frame grabber that “screen scrapes” what’s on the local laptop (connected by VGA) and transmits the information to the local and remote content displays.
Chapter 1: Preparing for the Installation CHECKING THE EQUIPMENT Once you have selected and prepared the room in which you are going to install the VidyoPanorama system, you can begin unpacking the equipment. When unpacking, check that you have received all of these...

AV engineer or integrator during the installation process. INSTALLING THE HARDWARE Before you begin the installation process, you must ensure that rack rails supplied with VidyoPanorama will work with the equipment rack you purchased. Once you have checked the rack mounting, you can install and cable the Controller Node, Decoder Nodes, and the remaining system components.
Chapter 2: Installing VidyoPanorama NOTE: The rails for the Controller Node and Decoder Nodes support a wide variety of racks, but they do not support the ability to extend the Nodes out of the rack for service. Thus, they don’t provide support for a cable management arm (CMA).
Connecting the Cables When connecting the cables, refer to the steps and diagrams in this section, or for more details, refer to the VidyoPanorama Audio Video Design wiring diagram, which includes detailed audio, video, network and power, and rack layout diagrams.

Chapter 2: Installing VidyoPanorama Connect an Ethernet cable from each Decoder Node to the network switch. Connect an Ethernet cable from the audio mixer to the network switch. Connect an Ethernet cable from the wireless access point to the network switch.
Assigning the Cluster Name and Node Names Once you have powered up all the VidyoPanorama components, you must access the Decoder Nodes to verify that the cluster name is accurate and to assign the node names. The Decoder Nodes will each automatically obtain an IP address using DHCP.
Page 30
When you select a node name, be sure to enter a name that will help you remember which display it is. This is especially important if you have a VidyoPanorama system with a lot of displays. Some people like to use a name that refers to the display’s physical location on the wall, or the Decoder Node’s location in the rack or on the switch, or a combination of these.
Chapter 2: Installing VidyoPanorama The NETBIOS name. The workgroup name. If needed, click the blue triangle next to the word Display to view the display timeout settings. In the ScreenSaver Timeout field, enter the number of seconds to wait before displaying the screen- saver.
In order for the conference participants to use the VidyoRemote, you must enable access to the VidyoRemote. Note: You must have VidyoPortal version 2.1.4 or later to use VidyoPanorama and the VidyoRemote. To enable access to the VidyoRemote: Configure the physical remote control (the Dell Duo tablet) so that it has a shortcut to the customer’s Portal URL in its Startup folder:...
Page 33
The default URL of the VidyoRemote is “panremote.html”. By doing this, whenever the VidyoRemote boots up, it will automatically access the Portal URL. When you access the URL, enter VidyoPanorama’s account credentials. The VidyoPanorama system requires a “Normal” user account type. The Admin password is Panorama123...
Chapter 3: Configuring VidyoPanorama Configuring VidyoPanorama This chapter describes how to configure VidyoPanorama using the Admin pages. Before you begin, ensure that you have VidyoPortal version 2.1.4 or later. This version is required for use with VidyoPanorama. ACCESSING THE ADMIN PAGES The first time you access the Admin pages, you will have access to only the System Information and About tabs.
Configuration tab (described on page 38) to configure your VidyoPanorama settings and options. VIEWING SYSTEM INFORMATION The VidyoRemote System Info tab enables you to view information about your VidyoPanorama system, such as its cluster name and which camera is selected. You cannot make any changes to the information on this page.
Page 36
Controller Node (or Control Point). For example, a Controller Node with the cluster name “Vidyo” will find and associate with all the Decoder Nodes that have “Vidyo” as the cluster name. By default, VidyoPanorama systems ship with the same cluster name so that when the Decoder Nodes power up, they all appear on the Controller Node Admin pages and are all associated with each other.
CONFIGURING THE PORTAL CREDENTIALS The VidyoRemote Credentials tab enables you to configure the VidyoPortal credentials so you can log in. You should do this immediately after accessing the Admin pages for the first time. Note that VidyoPanorama uses a Normal user account.
Chapter 3: Configuring VidyoPanorama CONFIGURING THE VIDYOPANORAMA SETTINGS AND OPTIONS The VidyoRemote Configuration tab enables you to configure various VidyoPanorama settings and options, including cluster information, network controls, video encoding and decoding preferences, and other options. You should configure these settings immediately after logging in to the Admin pages for the first time, and you should only change these settings when you are not in a call.
2 to save upstream bandwidth. 2 is the default. If you expect a lot of mobile participants in your VidyoPanorama calls and you have enough bandwidth, select 3. This will add about ½ MB to 1080p/60 calls, but it makes it a better experience for mobile participants.
Play Tones Indications checkbox is selected. (The Play Tones Indications checkbox is located in the Indications section of the Configuration page.) If you do not want VidyoPanorama to automatically show the local content whenever it is shared, clear the checkmark from the autoshowcontent checkbox.
(as long as autoshowcontent is checked). The Allow Far End to control Local Camera field is not available with the VidyoPanorama version 1.0 release. If you want participants to automatically enter a particular room whenever they log in, select the Autojoin My Room checkbox.
The VidyoPanorama Display Layout tab enables you to design the layout of the displays. You should carefully read this section before you begin designing your layout. Stream Types You can determine what will appear on which displays in your VidyoPanorama room by selecting from these stream types: ...
Keep in mind that the notion of layout for the VidyoPanorama room is based on a regular conference room. In a conference room, participants that come in early have the best seats, and they get to keep those seats until the end of the conference.
Page 44
In our case, six screens appeared on the page even though we physically have only four screens in our VidyoPanorama room, but we will be able to eliminate those two unused screens in the next step.
Page 45
In the Max Participants dropdown list, select the maximum number of streams that can be seen. The number you select can be less than the number of displays you have in your VidyoPanorama room. By reducing the number of streams, you reduce your receive bandwidth. Vidyo recommends that you set the total number of systems tiles to the same number you enter in this field.
Page 46
Chapter 3: Configuring VidyoPanorama largest display, which is at the top center, to be a Content display. To do so, we select the Content checkbox for the top center screen. The guidelines also indicate that the main video display should be at eye level and closer to the center, so we will select the Single Stream checkbox for the bottom center display.
Page 47
Chapter 3: Configuring VidyoPanorama In the Self-View Priority box, you should have only one display listed since VidyoPanorama allows only one Self-View display. If you have more than one display listed, you must re-assign the display types until only one display is listed.
Chapter 3: Configuring VidyoPanorama Indications The VidyoPanorama Display Layout screen enables you to select which indications you want to show on- screen, and on which displays you want to show them.
