NOTE
The following paragraph contains some
useful information for installing a
modem board in the terminal. Read it
through before replacing or installing
a modern assembly to ensure the proced-
ure is accomplished as efficiently as
possible.
The cable harness that carries the terminal processor bus signals
from J4 of the main logic board to the option boards is shielded
and is therefore quite stiff. This makes the cable difficult to
position properly for connecting it to the interface board (small
board) of the modern assembly. To make this connection easier, an
extension cable is provided with the modem for use on CC634-A/
CC638-A terminals and the cable harness on CC634-B/CC638-B
terminals has been lengthened. If difficulty is still
encountered in making this connection and the terminal has the
dot graphic option board installed, remove the cable harness from
the graphics board to provide more slack for connecting the
harness to the modern board. Once the harness is connected to the
modem assembly, reattach the harness to the graphic board whose
connector is much easier to reach than that of the modern
assembly.
To remove and replace the internal modern board, perform the
following actions. Refer to figures 6B-23 and 6B-24 while
performing this procedure.
CAUTION
Before proceeding with the following
step, be sure that the ac power cord
is removed from the rear of the ter-
minal and that all units connected to
the te rmi n al h ave had the i r i npu t
power turned off. It is not neces-
sary to remove any of the data cable
connectors from the rear panel of the
terminal.
1. Remove replacement modern assembly from packing material
(CDC P/N 90534500) and set assembly aside until ready to
install it in terminal.
2. Remove phone cord from rear of modem assembly. A small
flat-bladed screwdriver may be used to compress the
clipped off release tab on the RJ-11 phone plug while the
plug is withdrawn from the modern jack.
3. Remove access lid and logic-drawer assembly from terminal
as described in procedures 3 and 4, respectively.
