5.2.6.A Frame Rate, Color Depth, and Module Processing
• Adjust the Frame Rate's Maximum Limit upward if the ServLINK is not
updating its display of the Host PC's video quickly enough (video changes and
mouse movement are very jerky). Adjust the limit downward if the ServLINK is
trying to update this display too quickly for your modem to handle (you get
"bandwidth exceeded" messages, mouse movement freezes, or—in extreme
cases—pcANYWHERE crashes). The default setting is 4 frames per second;
other available settings include 1, 2, 8, or 16 frames per second, or 2, 4, 8, or
16 seconds per frame. If you need a higher frame rate than your modem is
capable of, consider reducing the color depth (see the next paragraph).
• If you're at the local user station, you'll want to adjust the color depth to 256 colors
to take advantage of the good color fidelity that the ServLINK can achieve
locally. But if you're at a remote user station, you'll want to set this to 16 colors,
and set pcANYWHERE to use 16 colors as well (consult its manual for
instructions).The default setting is 256 colors; other available settings include
black & white, 4-level grayscale, and 16 colors. As mentioned above, reducing
the color depth—particularly from 256 to 16 colors—can greatly increase your
frame rate, and there is often no discernible difference in video quality.
