Adjusting the Parking
Brakes
Adjust the brakes when there is more than 2.5 cm (1
inch) of free travel of the brake pedal, or when more
holding force is required

1. Free travel
Note:
Use the wheel-motor backlash to rock the
drums back and forth to ensure that the drums are
free prior to and after adjustment.

To reduce free travel of the brake pedals, tighten
the brakes by loosening the front nut on the
threaded end of the brake cable

Tighten the rear nut to move the cable backward
until brake pedals have 0.63 to 1.27 cm (1/4 to
1/2 inch) of free travel, before the wheel locks
up

Tighten the front nuts, ensuring that both cables
actuate the brakes simultaneously.
