6. OPERATION

6.1 INTRODUCTION

This Section describes the normal operation of the Up-Converter. The design of this equipment
a
llows for minimal operator intervention and maintenance.

he unit may be monitored and controlled via the RS-232 or the RS-485 serial interfaces, or via
th
e Relay interface. The Relay interface provides for the user an alarm indication and remote RF
m
ute capability of the unit. The RS-232 and the RS-485 serial interfaces prov
U
p-Converter functions, including the monitoring of key operating parameters, gain control, and
sh
utdown.

6.2 SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS

6.3 BA C
SI OPERATING PROCEDURE
Perform
the following operating procedure:
1. Verify
that the 'Pre-Power and System Checkout' procedure as described in
page 25 was performed successfully.
2
. Switch ON the main power source.
3. Wait for the software to boot into PC.
4
. Using the RS-232 interface set up the serial communication linkage between a unit and the
user's computer terminal. Press t2 (command to switch to PC Terminal) in Term9
HyperTerminal communications program.
CAUTION:
The unit may start in mute, un-mute or the previous state condition, depending
on the setting in stc command issued on RS-232. Note as well that the connection between pins
G and H on the Relay Interface allow the unit to be un-muted by software either from RS-232
or
from RS-485. If this connection is not installed, the unit will remain permanently in MUTE,
regardless the commands received on the serial interfaces
