Chapter 1 Overview 1.1 Introduction Advantech’s ADAM-4561 allows PC users to connect their serial devices to systems that use USB interface. By attaching the ADAM- 4561 to a PC, it will no longer be necessary to open the chassis or turn off the PC to install the hub. -

Chapter 2 Installation & Setup 2.1 Hardware Installation 2.1.1 Network Architecture Traditional serial port communication uses a COM port board that slides into one of the slots at the back of your PC. With the ADAM- 4561, you can access the COM port from USB ports. The ADAM-4561 can be inte- grated into the network architecture of any protocol. -

2.1.4 Jumper Settings You can use JP1 on ADAM-4561 to configure serial mode. Please refer to the picture below for Jumper JP1 location. You can choose “On (RS-422 Master)” or “Auto (RS-422 Slave/RS-485 Automatic Direction Control)” for serial mode. Please refer to the picture below. -

2.2 Software Installation 2.2.1 Driver and Utility Installation In order to use a PC to control serial devices connected to the ADAM- 4561, you must first have a host running Windows 2000/2003/XP/Vista. Following are the installation instructions to set up the ADAM-4561.
