Checking the pulser coil
1. Remove the hour meter cover.
2. Connect the test harness to the pulser
coil.
3. Measure the pulser coil output peak volt-
age. Replace the pulser coil if less than
specification.
Test harness (6 pins): 90890-06872
Pulser coil output peak voltage:
White/red (W/R) – Ground
White/black (W/B) – Ground
White/yellow (W/Y) – Ground
White/green (W/G) – Ground
White/blue (W/L) – Ground
White/brown (W/Br) – Ground

4. Disconnect the pulser coil coupler.
5. Connect the digital circuit tester to the
pulser coil coupler (pulser coil side).
6. Measure the pulser coil resistance.
Replace the pulser coil resistance if out
of specification.
Pulser coil resistance
(reference data):
White/red (W/R) 1 – Ground
White/black (W/B) 2 – Ground
White/yellow (W/Y) 3 – Ground
White/green (W/G) 4 – Ground
White/blue (W/L) 5 – Ground
White/brown (W/Br) 6 – Ground
294 – 398 Ω at 20°C (68°F)
7. Connect the digital circuit tester to the
pulser coil coupler a and CDI unit cou-
pler b (wiring harness side).
8. Check the continuity. Replace the wiring
harness if no continuity.
