ALUMINUM
For water and wastewater
Aluminon Method*
1.
Fill a 50-mL
graduated mixing
cylinder to the 50-mL
mark with sample.
Note: If samples cannot
be analyzed
immediately, see
Sampling and Storage,
following these steps.
Note: Rinse cylinder
with 6N (1:1)
hydrochloric acid and
demineralized water
before use to avoid
errors due to
contaminants adsorbed
on the glass.
Note: The sample
temperature must be
o
between 20-25
C
o
(68-77
F) for accurate
results.
Note: For proof of
accuracy, use a 0.4 mg/L
aluminum standard
solution (preparation
given in Accuracy
Check) in place of the
sample.

(0 to 1.00 mg/L)
2.
Add the contents
of one Ascorbic Acid
Powder Pillow.
Stopper and invert
several times to
dissolve powder.

3.
Add the contents
of one AluVer 3
Aluminum Reagent
Powder Pillow.
Stopper and invert
repeatedly for one
minute to dissolve
powder.
Note: A red-orange
color will develop if
aluminum is present.
Note: Inconsistent
results will be occur if
any powder is
undissolved.
