Chapter 4 — Managing, Troubleshooting, and Upgrading the IF2
3 Click Upgrade IF2 RFID Fixed Reader. The upgrade process
begins and the firmware is transferred to the IF2.
During the upgrade, the web browser interface screen does not
auto-refresh. Click Refresh in the web browser to check the
progress of the upgrade. When the login screen appears, the
upgrade is complete and the IF2 has already rebooted.

Upgrading With SmartSystems Foundation

You can use the SmartSystems server to upgrade the firmware on the
IF2. The server is part of SmartSystems Foundation, which is available
from the Intermec web site.
Before you can upgrade the IF2, you need:
• SmartSystems Foundation. For more information, go to
www.intermec.com/SmartSystems.
• the IF2 upgrade file. For help, see
Upgrade" on page 69.
To upgrade the IF2 using the SmartSystems Foundation Server
1 Install SmartSystems Foundation on your PC and open the server.
2 Make sure the server and your IF2 are on the same subnet.
3 In the software vault, locate the IF2 upgrade to install.
4 Drag-and-drop the upgrade file onto the IF2 you want to upgrade.
SmartSystems server tells you that it is installing the upgrade on
the IF2.
The SmartSystems server shows the IF2 as being offline until the
reader reboots and reconnects to the system.
Do not cycle power to the IF2 during the upgrade. If power is lost
during the upgrade, the IF2 may require factory repair.
