Five fans ship standard with the chassis. To boot and operate the chassis, all five fans must be installed
and operating.
Each fan contains two rotors. If one rotor fails, the fan is degraded and continues to operate. The health
LED on the degraded fan changes to red and a management event is logged. The chassis can operate
normally with one degraded fan (one failed rotor) until that fan is replaced.
Always complete the removal and replacement of the new fan within 60 seconds to maintain proper
airflow in the chassis.
Be sure to order the correct fan spare part number for your chassis. For more information, see "System
components (on page 18)."
To remove the component:
Open the cable management arm (on page 22).

Squeeze the two release tabs on the fan together to release it from the chassis.
2.
Remove the component as indicated.
3.
To replace the component, reverse the removal procedure.

CAUTION:
installed in each bay in the rear of chassis. When replacing a component or blank, leave the bay
empty for no more than 60 seconds. Failure to do so can disrupt airflow in the chassis.
