What is RDS?

RDS (Radio Data System) is a system for provid-
ing information along with FM broadcasts. This
inaudible information provides such features as
program service name, program type, traffic
announcement standby, automatic tuning and
program type tuning, intended to aid radio lis-
teners in finding and tuning in to a desired sta-
tion.

Notes
• RDS service may not be provided by all sta-
tions.
• RDS functions like AF (alternative frequencies
search) and TA (traffic announcement
standby) are only available when your radio is
tuned in to an RDS station.
• After choosing your destination, press
and you can listen to the guide voice

during navigation guidance.
Displaying the frequency of an
RDS station
When you tune in to an RDS station, its pro-
gram service name is displayed. If you want to
know the frequency, perform the following
steps.
• Press
to change the frequency (or PTY
DISP
information) display.
Press
repeatedly to switch between the
DISP
following displays:
Program service name — Frequency
Notes
• After switching displays, if you do not perform
an operation within eight seconds, the display
automatically returns to the program service
name.
• The PTY (program type ID code) information is
correlated with the list in the section PTY list
on page 53.
• When new traffic information arrives,
appears. If desired, check the new informa-
tion.
