System Fan Failure

Fan speed is controlled by system temperature via IPMI. If a fan fails, the remaining
fans will ramp up to full speed. Replace any failed fan at your earliest convenience
with the same type and model (the system can continue to run with a failed fan).

Maintaining System Fan Trays

Some SC118G chassis may be configured with extra space to provide room for an
optional additional fan tray, should additional cooling be required.
Adding an Additional System Fan Tray
1. Power down the system as described in section 6-2 and remove the cover.
2. Place the additional fan tray into the vacant space in the the chassis, aligning
the mounting holes in the fan tray with the mounting holes in the floor of the
chassis and aligning the fan tray so that it is facing in the the opposite direction
from the fan beside it. These trays hook together and must be connected in
alternating directions in order to fit within the chassis.
3. Connect the fan wires to the fan headers.
4. Power up the system and check that the fan is working properly before replacing
the chassis cover.
