Appendix D: 7847i-e Code Updating

General Information

To initiate a code update, a compressed code file must be posted to on an IIS server on the
same subnet as the 7847i-e. The compressed code file should have the extension .scz and the
filename MUST include "7847ie", otherwise the update will not be attempted.
Since the file will have the extension ".scz", it is likely that this file name extension will need
to be added to the MIME types in the IIS manager. Please contact your IT administrator to
properly configure your server.

Procedure

From the receiver, the get code command should be issued to the subscriber to be updated.
On the 7810iR-ent, this command can be found on the Subscriber Commands screen for the
given account. To navigate to this screen, go to the Accounts Summary screen by pressing
the "View Accounts" button. Press the display button associated with the Active accounts to
view the list of accounts. Press the "Enabled" button of the account you wish to update.
Press the "Commands" button to get the subscriber commands screen. On this screen, there
is a box labeled "Software Update". On the 7810PC, the same tab can be found on the Private
LAN Accounts screen. Press the URL data entry field and enter the full network path to the
software file. This includes the IP address of the IIS server followed by the filename. For
example, if the IIS server's IP address is 10.10.101.140 and the code file is 7857ie-2-12-4.scz,
the URL that would be entered in the command is http://10.10.101.140/bin/7847ie-2-12-4.scz.
Press the "Get Code" button to issue the command. It can take up to 180 seconds for the
command to get the subscriber.
Once the subscriber receives the command, it will:
1. Send a "Code Update has Started" message to the central station (E903 00 C803)
2. Begin flashing the Status LEDs rapidly in succession
3. "Code Update In Progress" is displayed on the 7720P if it is connected
The "Code Update In Progress" string is displayed when any of the following commands are
attempted while the code update process is active:
1. Registration (Up or Down arrow key command from 7720P)
2. Force Rootfile Upload ("0" key command from 7720P)
3. Enter Program Mode (<enter> key command from 7720P)
4. Reset Radio (<shift> "X" key command from 7720P)
All other key commands are usable during the code update process. Alarm processing and
delivery is also not compromised while the code is being downloaded.
If the download was not successful, the device sends a "Code Update Failure" message to the
Central Station (E904 00 C803). The failure can occur for a number of reasons. Some of the
possibilities are:
1. The URL supplied is NULL
2. Failure to connect to the IIS server
a. Server is not ready
b. Wrong IP address specified in URL
c.
3. Failure to find the file identified in the URL
4. The device fails to receive the entire file
Wrong folder identified in URL
