Machine seems to be running hot
On a single node
Check the IBM Flex System Manager management software (if installed) or CMM log for rising temperature
events. If there are no events, the compute node is running within normal operating temperatures. Note
that you can expect some variation in temperature.
On multiple machines/chassis
1. Make sure that the room temperature is within the specified range (see Features and specifications).
2. Check the IBM Flex System Manager management software (if installed) or CMM log for rising
temperature events. If there are no events, the compute node is running within normal operating
temperatures. Note that you can expect some variation in temperature.
Unusual Smell
1. An unusual smell might be coming from newly installed equipment.
2. If the problem remains, contact IBM Support.
Optional device and replaceable component installation problems
Use this information to resolve optional device and replaceable component installation problems.
External USB device not recognized
Use this information to troubleshoot external USB devices.
1. Make sure that the proper drivers are installed on the compute node. See the product documentation
for the USB device for information about device drivers.
2. Use the Setup utility to make sure that the device is configured correctly.
3. If the USB device is plugged into a hub or the console breakout cable, unplug the device and plug it
directly into the USB port on the front of the compute node.
4. Run the DSA USB diagnostic tests
Network adaptors plugged into I/O expansion connectors 3 or 4 show only half
the ports available.
PCIe connectors 3 and 4 only have 1 x 8 PCIe lanes. This creates a problem for cards that require 2 x 8
lanes. Not all cards are supported in connectors 3 and 4.
1. Verify the cards in I/O connector 3 and 4 are not cards supported only in I/O expansion connectors
1 and 2. The following link to the Service Guide describes cards supported only in I/O expansion
connector 1 and 2.
2. If the card is in the correctly supported connector, replace the card.
