Step 1.
Identify the hard disk drive bay (hard disk drive bay 0 or hard disk drive bay 1) in which you plan to
install the hot-swap hard disk drive.
Step 2.
If a hard disk drive bay filler is installed, remove it from the compute node by pressing together the
release latches and sliding the filler away from the compute node.
Step 3.
Touch the static-protective package that contains the hot-swap hard disk drive to any unpainted
metal surface on the Lenovo Flex System chassis or any unpainted metal surface on any other
grounded rack component; then, remove the hard disk drive from the package.
Step 4.
Open the release lever on the hot-swap hard disk drive and slide the drive into the bay until it is
firmly seated in the connector.
Step 5.
Lock the hot-swap hard disk drive into place by closing the release lever.
Step 6.
Check the hard disk drive status LEDs to make sure that the hard disk drive is operating correctly.

Removing an I/O expansion adapter

Use this information to remove an I/O expansion adapter.
Before you remove the I/O expansion adapter, complete the following steps:
1. Read "Safety" on page v and "Installation guidelines" on page 973.
2. If the compute node is installed in a Lenovo Flex System chassis, remove it (see "Removing a compute
node from a chassis" on page 975 for instructions).
3. Carefully lay the compute node on a flat, static-protective surface, orienting the compute node with
the bezel pointing toward you.
To remove an I/O expansion adapter, complete the following steps.

Step 1.
Remove the cover (see "Removing the compute node cover" on page 986).
Step 2.
Locate the I/O expansion adapter connectors (see "System-board layouts" on page 20).
Step 3.
Open the retention clips
Step 4.
Lift the I/O expansion adapter from the connector and remove the I/O expansion adapter from
the compute node
the adapter.
If you are instructed to return the I/O expansion adapter, follow all packaging instructions, and use any
packaging materials for shipping that are supplied to you.
