S1—Ring Counter
The modem increments the S1 register each time it detects a ring signal on the telephone line. The modem
clears S1 if no rings occur over a six second interval. This register is read-only.
Range: 0—255.
Default: 0.
Units: rings.
S2—Escape Character (User Defined)
S2 holds the decimal value of the ASCII character used as the escape character. The default value
corresponds to an ASCII +. The escape sequence allows the modem to exit data mode and enter
command mode when online. A value over 127 disables the escape process, i.e., no escape character is
recognized.
Range: 0—255.
Default: 43 (+).
Units: ASCII.
S3—Command Line Termination Character (User Defined)
S3 sets the character used to terminate command line and result codes.
Note: This register value is not stored with the &W command.
Range: 0—127.
Default: 13 (carriage return).
Units: ASCII.
S4—Response Formatting Character (User Defined)
This register determines the ASCII value used as the line feed character. The modem uses a line feed
character in command mode when it responds to the computer.
Note: This register value is not stored with the &W command.
Range: 0—127.
Default: 10 (line feed).
