Conditions for Multifeed Detection

Multifeed is an error where two or more sheets are fed through the ADF at once. It is also called a multifeed
when a different document length is detected.
Multifeed detection is performed by either checking the overlapping of documents, length of the documents,
or the combination of both. The following conditions are required for an accurate detection.
 Detection by overlapping
• Load documents of the same paper weight in the Paper Guides.
• Suitable paper weight: between 27 g/m
• Do not punch holes within 40 mm over the centre of the document.
• Do not attach other documents within 40 mm over the centre of the document.
NOTE
• The condition applies when the document is set in the centre of the pick-up roller.
• When you use detection by overlapping, scanning thick documents, such as plastic cards, will be
incorrectly detected as a multifeed.
To scan these documents successfully, disable the multifeed detection function.

Scanning a Mixed Batch

The following conditions apply when scanning a mixed batch of documents with different paper weights,
friction coefficients or sizes.
Make sure to test a few sheets first to check if the documents can be scanned.
 Paper direction
Align the direction of the paper fibre with the feed direction.
 Paper weight
Only paper weights between 40 g/m
 Friction coefficient
We recommend using the same type of paper from the same manufacturer.
When papers of different manufacturers/brands are mixed, it affects the feeding performance as the
difference in the friction coefficient increases.
We recommend using friction coefficients between 0.35 and 0.60 (reference value for paper friction
coefficient).
 Document position
Use paper sizes that fit the 39 mm width of the pick-up roller in the centre.
