To replace the battery, do the following:
1. Remove all media from the drives and turn off all attached devices and the computer. Then, disconnect
all power cords from electrical outlets and disconnect all cables that are connected to the computer.
2. Remove the computer cover. See "Removing the computer cover" on page 54.
3. Locate the battery. See "Parts on the system board" on page 6.
4. Remove the old battery.

5. Install a new battery.

6. Reinstall the computer cover and connect the cables. See "Completing the parts replacement" on
page 101.
Note: When the computer is turned on for the first time after replacing the battery, an error message
might be displayed. This is normal after replacing the battery.
7. Turn on the computer and all attached devices.
8. Use the Setup Utility program to set the date, time, and any passwords. See "Using the Setup Utility
program" on page 31.

Installing or replacing an optical drive

Attention: Do not open your computer or attempt any repair before reading and understanding the "Read
this first: Important safety information" on page v.
For some computer models, the optical-drive bay might be installed with a device such as an optical drive,
a 5.25-inch flex module, a flex storage enclosure, a front access storage enclosure, or an optical/storage
combination enclosure.
This section provides instructions on how to install or replace an optical drive. For any other device in the
optical-drive bay, the installation or replacement procedure is similar.
