LOADING FROM OTHER MANUFACTURER'S CD-ROMS

On the S2000, as well as having access to a vast range of Akai sound library, you may also load
sounds from CD-ROMs made for other manufacturers' samplers. thereby giving you access to
even more sounds. When you enter the LOAD mode and press HDSK to load from hard disk,
the S2000 will search for a valid hard disk. If the hard disk is an Akai formatted hard disk, you will
be able to load Akai sound library from hard disk or CD-ROM. If however, the hard disk/CD-ROM
is one formatted for another manufacturer, you will be able to access that and load the
manufacturer's sounds.
To use a CD-ROM from another manufacturer, set a SCSI ID as appropriate in the GLOBAL
mode (i.e. have your Akai disk on, say, 5 (the default) and your other manufacturer's CD-ROM
on, say, 4). To load sounds from the other manufacturer's disk, select SCSI ID 4 in the
GLOBAL page. Now, when you go to the LOAD mode, the S2000 will first of all search for a
hard disk on SCSI ID 4. Of course it won't find one so it will scan again, looking for a hard
disk/CD-ROM formatted for another manufacturer. Of course, because this drive is on ID 4, it
will find it and you will be able to load sounds from it. In fact, the operation is quite transparent
and operation will be very similar to loading sounds from an Akai formatted disk except that you
do not have as many options for load selection.
Assuming another manufacturer's CD-ROM has been found, pressing F2 will show something
like the following screen:
There are several ways in which you can load sounds from another manufacturer's CD-ROM.
You may load an entire volume (i.e. all the the sounds) or you can load individual programs.
The first page allows you to load an entire Akai volume (as opposed to a whole CD-ROM
volume). The name of the volume will be shown (in the example shown above,
PROTEUS1/POP). Pressing GO will cause that entire volume to be loaded.
To load a single program, press PAGE DOWN. You will see this screen display:
Use the DATA wheel to select the individual program you wish to load. Press GO to load it.
In both cases, you will receive the usual prompt:
You should press F1 or F2 as appropriate.
If the disk is from another manufacturer, the same process applies and operation is pretty much
the same as described above.
