SETTING THE S2000'S SCSI ID

The next page down allows you to set the SCSI ID of the S2000's internal CPU:
The LOCAL SCSI ID parameter sets the S2000's SCSI ID (as distinct from the rear panel SCSI
interface's ID) and is used when communicating between other S2000s or computer editors
over SCSI. Under normal circumstances, you needn't worry too much about this parameter (in
fact, for the most part, you can totally ignore it) but, if you have two or more Akai samplers
sharing the same SCSI buss (i.e. two or more samplers sharing the same hard disk drive or CD-
ROM), all sampler's LOCAL SCSI ID should be different otherwise there will be conflict on the
SCSI buss which will cause problems when loading data over SCSI. Also, when using the
Macintosh™ editing software that is bundled with the S2000, this parameter does have
relevance as it sets the SCSI ID that the Mac and the sampler will use. Please refer to the
editing software's manual for details on this.

MIDI VIA SCSI

The next page down allows you to send MIDI System Exclusive messages to a computer or
another sampler via the SCSI interface instead of the MIDI connections:
The parameter is either ON or OFF. SCSI transmission of MIDI is much faster than normal MIDI
data dumps which can take a very long time!!
To perform a MIDI data dump, you must make a MIDI loop (MIDI OUT of the S2000 connected to
MIDI IN of the other device and MIDI OUT from the device to the MIDI IN of the S2000).
Though the S2000 is a 16-bit sampler, it can accept samples from other samplers, including
those from other manufacturers which use a lower bit resolution. If transmitting to another
sampler which uses fewer bits, the S2000 simply truncates the low bits during the transfer.
Samples can also be transmitted to and accepted from other devices such as computers which
are capable of storing and/or editing sample data with the appropriate sample editing software.
Normally, the 'host' computer will ask the S2000 for a sample dump or will transmit a sample
dump to the S2000 on a particular SysEx MIDI channel or, if via SCSI, over a particular SCSI ID.

MIDI SYSTEM EXCLUSIVE CHANNEL

The next page down allows you to set the MIDI channel for System Exclusive data transfer.
When a device is requesting or transmitting data using System Exclusive, the S2000 should
have its own SysEx MIDI channel. Both devices must be set to the same channel for transfer to
take place.
Use F1 to select the S2000's MIDI channel and F2 to select the MIDI System Exclusive channel
and use the DATA wheel to set the values.
