SAMPLE MODE
NOTE: If, for some reason, you do record the sound a bit low, there is a function called
NORMALISING in EDIT SAMPLE that allows you to bring the signal up to optimum level.
TIP: If you suspect the sound may have distorted, even though it might sound o.k on the
note you sampled at, try playing the sound a few octaves down immediately after you have
made the recording - any distortion will be highlighted in this way. If the sound did distort, back
the RECORD LEVEL off a bit and try again.
There's nothing complicated about setting levels on the S2000 - if you have recorded on a
cassette machine, the principles are pretty much the same.

MAKING THE RECORDING

Once you have set the parameters and record level, press PAGE DOWN. You will see this
screen:
You can still adjust record level at this stage if you want. To start the sampling process, press F2
- ARM. You will see this screen:
The screen tells you the S2000 is about to record. If THRESH is selected as the means to start
recording, the S2000 is waiting for the signal to exceed the threshold level you have set. If you
selected MIDI as the means to start recording, this is indicating that the S2000 is waiting for a
MIDI note.
Once the signal exceeds the threshold or the MIDI note is received, the S2000 will start
recording. You may, if you wish, start the recording manually by press F1 (GO). If you change
your mind and don't wish to proceed with the recording, press F2 (EXIT). You will be taken back
to the ARM page.
When the recording is in process, you will see this screen:
As the recording progresses, so you will see a 'progress bar' moving across the top of the
screen:
If, for some reason, you need to stop recording, press ABORT. This will abort the recording
and take you back to the ARM page.
Once the recording has been made, you may now place it into a program or you may want to
edit it. We will look at sample editing a little later on.
If all this sounds complicated, it's only because a thorough description has to be given in
operator's manuals. In practice, because the default settings have been sensibly chosen and
because the GROUP keys allow you to bypass some of the less important parameters,
recording can be done very quickly.
