After connecting the VCX V7111 to the power source, the Ready and LAN LEDs on the front panel turn to green (after a self-testing period of about 1 minute). Any malfunction changes the Ready LED to red (see Monitoring the VCX V7111 Front Panel LEDs on page 45 for details on the VCX V7111 LEDs).

    Cable Cabling Procedure When initializing (connecting the VCX V7111 to the LAN for the first time) use a standard Ethernet cable to connect the network interface on your computer to a port on a network hub / switch. Use a second standard Ethernet cable to connect the VCX RJ-45 Ethernet V7111 to another port on the same network hub / switch.

    The Life Line provides a wired analog POTS phone connection to any PSTN or PBX FXS port when there is no power, or the LAN fails. With the VCX V7111 8FXS and VCX V7111 4FXS the Life Line connection is provided on port #4 (see Figure 14). With the VCX V7111 2FXS the Life Line connection is provided on port #2.

    Open a standard Web-browsing application such as Microsoft™ Internet Explorer™ (version 6.0 and higher) or Netscape™ Navigator™ (version 7.0 and higher). In the URL field, specify the IP address of the VCX V7111 (e.g., http://10.1.10.10 for the VCX V7111 FXS); the Embedded Web Server’s ‘Enter Network Password’ screen appears (Figure 16 on page 32).

    The preferred coder is the coder that the VCX V7111 uses as a first choice for all connections. If the far end gateway does not use this coder, the VCX V7111 negotiates with the far end gateway to select a coder that both sides can use.
