Units Disconnection

When a unit needs to be disconnected from the existing system configuration composed of the
base unit and the expansion unit, you have to do the following steps in the indicated order.
Attention: Before attempting to disconnect the expansion unit from the system, remember that
if you are modifying the old system configuration, you have to perform the appropriate logical
operations, via software, through which you declare the new configuration to the system. For
any information, refer to the AIX Version 4 System Management Guide: Operating System and
Devices .
1. Do the steps listed in "Preliminary Operations" on page 9-2.
2. Remove the rear cover, the front cover, and the top cover of each unit, as described on
pages 9-4, 9-7, and 9-10.
3. Perform the following steps to the expansion unit, to disconnect the cables.
a. Disconnect the external peripherals, if any, from the designated SCSI controller.
b. Disconnect all connectors from adapters. Record which connector attaches to which
adapter.
c. According to the number of SCSI buses used in the unit, it is suggested (but not required)
to disconnect the corresponding SCSI terminator(s) from the ''DIFFERENTIAL SCSI A''
and/or ''DIFFERENTIAL SCSI B'' connectors located on the required system interface
board. See "SCSI Terminators" on page 9-25 for further details.
d. If you are removing the expansion unit, disconnect the SCSI cable(s) connecting the
SCSI bus(es) of this unit. One end of the SCSI cable connects to the SCSI controller,
while the other end connects to the appropriate connector of the SCSI interface card
installed in the unit. See "SCSI Interface Card Interconnection" on page 9-25 for further
details.
e. Disconnect the RS-485 cable from the required system interface board. It is suggested
(but not required) to remove also the RS-485 terminator plug. See "RS-485 Cables
Interconnection" page 9-24 for further details.
f. Disconnect the FXE cable used to generate the expansion unit MCA bus. See the "FXE
Cable Interconnection" section on page 9-17 for further details.
4. Reinstall the original metal bridge (see page 9-19) which was removed earlier from the base
unit.

Mechanical Disconnection

You must mechanically disconnect the expansion unit from the base unit.
1. Remove the locking bars located at the bottom of the unit, both in the front and in the rear.
For more detailed information, refer to "Mechanical Connection" on page 9-14.
2. Move the unit. Refer to "Moving the System Unit" on page 10-1 for more information.
Once you have completed all the required operation and you need to re-connect the units
among them, follow the procedures beginning on page 9-2 for an explanation about the units
connection.
