11 PROBLEM SOLVING

11.1 PROBLEM SOLVING GENERAL ______________________________________________________
Problems
Engine will not start
Engine is difficult to
start or does not run
correctly.
Engine Stops
The Engine
Temperature is
higher than normal
Battery not holding
charge. The battery
light has turned on.
Decks cut at
different levels.
Quality of cut is
lower than normal.

Possible Causes
The glow plug has not turned off.
Battery low on charge or has
defects.
The fuel tank empty or fuel is
dirty.
Blown fuse.
The starter relay has defects.
The mow switch set to cut.
Transport pedal not in neutral
position.
The fuel tank empty or fuel is
dirty.
Air Cleaner has a blockage or
dirty.
Injectors, fuel pump.
Other Engine Problem.
Fuel tank empty.
The interlocks are not set before
you leave the operators seat.
The coolant level is low.
The radiator air intake has a
blockage.
Waterpump/alternator belt or fan
belt is loose or broken.
The battery terminals are loose
or have corrosion.
Low electrolyte level in battery.
Alternator belt loose or broken.
The alternator has defects.
The cutting blades are worn.
The engine speed is low.
Cutter motors worn.
Speed is higher than normal.
Action
Set the ignition switch again and allow the glow plug to turn off
before you turn the engine.
Inspect the condition of battery and battery connections.
Fill the tank with clean fuel. Change the filter, Bleed air from
the lines.
Replace the Fuse.
Test the relay. If a replacement is needed, replace the relay.
Set the mow switch to the OFF position.
Remove foot from the pedal and make sure that the pedal
returns to the neutral position.
Fill the tank with clean fuel. Change the filter, Bleed air from
the lines.
Check air cleaner, replace as necessary.
Refer to the engine manual.
Refer to the Engine Troubleshooting guide.
Fill the tank with clean fuel. Bleed the fuel lines.
Make sure that the parking brake is in the ON position and the
mow switch is in the OFF position.
Inspect the coolant. Add 50/50 anti-freeze solution if the
coolant level is low.
Clean wire mesh guard at radiator.
Inspect water pump/alternator belt and fan belt. If belt is loose,
make sure that the belt is tightened to the correct level.
Inspect the terminals, clean and tighten as required.
Fill the battery with distilled water to the correct level.
Inspect water pump/alternator belt and tighten.
See the engine manual.
Replace the blades.
Check the engine speed, run the engine at full throttle.
Check the case drain leakage and flow check cutting circuit.
Set work speed stop.
