11Problem Solving

11.1 GENERAL________________________________________________________________

The problem solution chart lists basic problems that can occur during start and operation of the mower. For complete
information about the hydraulic and electrical systems, contact your Jacobsen Dealer.
Symptoms
Engine will not
start.
Engine hard to
start or runs
poorly.
Engine stops.
Engine
overheating.
Battery not
holding charge.
Cutting unit does
not cut evenly.

Possible Causes
1.
Parking brake disengaged
or power take-off switch
ON.
2.
Battery low on charge or
defective.
3.
Fuel tank empty or dirty.
4.
Fuse blown.
5.
Relay(s) defective.
1.
Fuel level low, fuel or fuel
filter dirty.
2.
Air cleaner dirty.
3.
Engine problem.
1.
Fuel tank empty.
2.
Interlocks not set before
leaving operator's position.
1.
Air intake restricted.
1.
Loose or corroded battery
terminals.
2.
Low electrolyte.
3.
Charging system defective.
1.
Deck not level.
2.
Engine speed too low.
3.
Mow speed not adjusted for
turf conditions.
1.
Check OPC System and start-up procedure.
2.
Inspect condition of battery and battery connections.
3.
Fill with fresh fuel. Change fuel filter. Bleed fuel lines.
4.
Replace fuse.
5.
Test and replace relay.
1.
Fill with fresh fuel. Change fuel filter.
2.
Inspect and replace air filter.
3.
Consult engine manual.
1.
Fill with fresh fuel and bleed fuel lines.
2.
Engage parking brake and set power take-off switch to
OFF.

Clean engine cooling air intake and fins.
1.
Inspect and clean terminals.
2.
Refill to correct level.
3.
See engine manual.
1.
Check that decks are level. Check and adjust cutting height.
2.
Check engine speed with throttle in its fast position.
3.
Adjust mow speed for best cut.
