Install the Finishing Materials

22.
NOTE: To install the fireplace facing flush with the finished wall, position framework to accommodate the thickness
of the finished wall.
NOTE: See Cold Climate Insulation on Page 10 and Vent Termination Clearances on Page 12.
1. Complete finished interior wall. Maintain a minimum 1" (25 mm) clearance from the door frame outer edge to
any finish material.
NOTE: NEVER install combustible material (wall finish, surround, trim, etc.) on, in front of, or overlapping any
part of the fireplace front face.
Finishing without optional Surround and Bezel—Cleanface Finish
1. Ensure the top and bottom nailing flanges are attached to the fireplace in the correct vertical position for a
cleanface finish and the correct horizontal position for the wall finish material thickness (Page 19).
NOTE: Install a second, field-supplied noncombustible board over the supplied noncombustible board. The
fireboard supplied with the unit is not intended to be the finish material.
2. Ensure the left and right side nailing flanges are properly installed (Page 19).
NOTE: The fireplace ships from factory with the all nailing flanges positioned for a cleanface installation.
3. Ensure the two filler/angle brackets are installed (Figure 41).
NOTE: Fireplace ships from factory with both filler/angle brackets installed. Do NOT remove brackets for
cleanface finish; they are required for proper combustion.

the two shorter pieces of fiber board vertically to the left and right side nailing flanges using installer-supplied
screws through the countersunk holes in the fiber board (Figure 42).
5. Cover the lower portion of the fireplace with finish material.
6. Skim-coat all drywall, and mud all joints.
NOTE: If skimming the provided fiber board to match drywall, use Sheetrock
type joint compound to fill all joints. These trademarks are owned by United States Gypsum Company or a
related company
7. For a painted wall finish, apply two (2) coats of quality primer and high-temperature paint.
8. After finishing all interior walls, install the glass door, if not already installed (Page 57).
