1. Configure and activate the Ethernet connections to the LANs. (For more
information about how to configure Ethernet connections, including
instructions for designating connections to VLANs, see the Basic Man-
agement and Configuration Guide, Chapter 3: Configuring Ethernet
Interfaces.) To configure the two Ethernet connections, enter:
Berlin(config)# interface ethernet 0/1
Berlin(config-eth 0/1)# ip address 192.168.1.1 /24
Berlin(config-eth 0/1)# no shutdown
Berlin(config-eth 0/1)# interface ethernet 0/2

2. Configure and activate an E1 interface that connects to a local ISP. The
E1-carrier line provides Internet access for the company. (For more
information about how to configure E1 or T1 interfaces, see the Basic
Management and Configuration Guide, Chapter 4: Configuring E1 and
T1 Interfaces.) Enter:
Berlin(config-eth 0/2)# interface e1 1/1
Berlin(config-e1 1/1)# tdm-group 1 timeslots 1-31
Berlin(config-e1 1/1)# no shutdown
3. Configure and activate a PPP interface that will provide the Data Link
Layer for the connection to the ISP. (For more information about config-
uring Data Link Layer protocols—such as PPP, Frame Relay, or HDLC—
for carrier-line connections, see the Basic Management and Configura-
tion Guide, Chapter 6: Configuring the Data Link Layer Protocol for E1,
T1, and Serial Interfaces.) Enter:
Berlin(config-e1 1/1)# interface ppp 1
Berlin(config-ppp 1)# ip address 10.10.1.1 /30
Berlin(config-ppp 1)# description Connection to ISP
Berlin(config-ppp 1)# no shutdown
Berlin(config-ppp 1)# exit
Before connecting to the ISP, administrators activate the Secure Router
OS firewall to protect the private network.
Berlin(config)# ip firewall
4. Bind the E1 interface to the PPP interface. Enter:
Berlin(config)# bind 1 e1 1/1 1 ppp 1
